GENTS COMPETITIONS RE-START
It gives me great pleasure to inform you that I have now been given the go-ahead to start
The first one will be a warmer in the bank on the 28 th June, stableford format, off the yellow
tees. Online booking for the competition will be done via BRS, 3 balls (pick your own playing
partners) with 8-minute intervals between each flight.
Time slots that have been allocated for this competition are:
0700hrs – 0932hrs
1156hrs – 1340hrs
Registration and payment will still be done in the pro shop. The cost of the competition will
be £3 with an optional two’s pot. All payments must be by card no cash.
You are to collect your card at registration and fill your own card as neatly as possible with
your name, correct handicap, date, tee used (yellow), time off and name of competition –
BACK TO GOLF STABLEFORD.
You are to mark your own card throughout your round in column A with your stableford score
in column B.
You are to allocate a playing partner as a check scorer in your group and record his scores
in the marker’s column on the left of the card, as if you had swapped cards. You are to print
your allocated playing partners name on the markers signature line so I can cross reference.
Once you have completed your round, players are to check their cards against their
allocated check scorer.
his own card and enter the stableford score in the box provided on the bottom left of the
Your card is to be put in the foot bin at the entrance of the clubhouse in the correct lid. This
has 3 lids; one for gents, one for ladies and one for seniors.
Results will be published on the club website by the following Friday.
I am also in the process of putting together the gent’s competitions on the club diary so
please keep an eye on this. All dates that that are on there now are to be ignored, the new
fixture dates will be on in the next week or 2.
Flagsticks/Holes: If clubs have made the decision to modify the depth of the hole to allow
players to remove the ball without touching the flagstick, scores will be acceptable for either
competition or supplementary score purposes. In such cases, the ball is considered holed if
any part of the ball is below the surface of the putting green, even if not lodged against the
Bunkers: As we know, the rakes have been removed. Preferred lies within bunkers
is permissible for competition or supplementary score purposes (Congu ruling). Please note
the distance for preferred lies in the bunker is limited to 6 inches and the area cannot be
smoothed before placing.
have one once the shot has been played.
Are the competitions qualifying? - Yes. I do accept that not being able to remove the pin
whilst on the green is alien for some, but this is not seen as an overall disadvantage, and
remains within the Rules of Golf as does the preferred lie within the bunker. As you would
expect, you must complete the hole by ‘putting out’.
Marking your own card is not normal practice, but these are extraordinary times and we must
make some change to help mitigate against the potential of Covid 19 transmission.
Being in the open, in the fresh air, enjoying the exercise and in the company of your friends
is an important tonic during these restrictions to normal life. We still have to be mindful of the
risk, but these measures should help minimise any potential spread.

Now that we are back on the course and getting back into the swing of things, literally. I'm sure that you are all wondering when the competitions will be starting?
As of yet, a decision on when the Gents Club Competitions will re-start has not been decided by myself, The Chairman and The Manager.
There are still several restrictions in place that will have a direct impact on the running of competitions. Myself and Graham are in close liaison with other golf clubs and the EGU on trying to work out how competitions can commence in line with the current government guidelines on COVID-19.
Realistically, I cannot envisage any competitions being held in June with the middle of July being a more probable scenario. It may be the case of holding some Roll-Up Stableford comps to start off with before the Major Board Comps start.
The R&A have stated that qualifying competitions can take place with certain rule changes; one being preferred lies in bunkers within 6". A work around concerning the pins and the positioning of the cups is being discussed.
As you are all aware, the situation on golf and other sports is changing weekly if not daily in some cases. As soon as I get more information I will let you know.
Please just remember that safety is paramount whilst we are in this pandemic. Just enjoy being on the fairways, soaking up the sun and hitting a few good shots.

GENTS COMPETITIONS UPDATE
I hope that you are all enjoying being back on the course and burning it up as if you had never been away.
This is just a general update on what is happening with the competitions in the current climate of COVID-19.
All Club Open Competitions have been cancelled this year apart from The Over 55's Mixed Open on the 14th Aug which is pending. This is a Seniors lead competition.
I cannot tell you when, if any this year, the Gents Competitions will start. As previous emails have stated, I am, on a weekly basis trying to adjust the Gents Comps diary to facilitate the comps if we get the go-ahead to start. If I do get the green light from the EGU, it won't take long to get the competitions onto the club diary and for the registration sheets to be published.
Any date for the resumption of club competitions will have an impact on how many can be completed this year. The most prestigious ones being added first then if I can, and there is enough time permitting this year, get as many in as possible.
Please just enjoy your golf at the moment and as soon as I have any update I'll let you know.

GENTS COMPETITIONS UPDATE
I hope that you are all keeping well and safe. This is just a quick notice to let you know that there is stuff going on behind the scenes in preparation for the re-start to the 2020 competitions diary.
At the moment I am working on a 3 step competitions restructuring; short, medium and long term plan and it is my intention to try and get all Major Board Competitions completed in what time we may have left this season.
Please keep an eye on the club website for any updates and as soon as the changes to the fixtures have been finalised by myself and the committee, these will be published accordingly.
