WINTER 2009/10

This Autumn at Blankney was very warm and therefore all areas of the course required regular cutting well into November. Along with this extended warm period came the usual leaf collecting which lasted approx. 6 weeks. I feel it is very important to keep the course looking tidy and we do try to go about leaf collecting without causing too much inconvenience to the golfers. Our new leaf collector certainly helped this year.

Also during the winter period we continue to spike greens [micro spike] on a monthly basis, good for the greens and again not too inconvenient for the golfers, we also spike tees and fairways. All the fairways will be verti-drained twice which does help to prevent compaction and keeps our well drained course free from standing water during the wet periods.

Other winter jobs include new steps on the 3rd and 16th tees, re-turfing ares that were worn in the summer months, and some bunker revamping to repair natural errosion, new fencing to the left of the 17th hole to match in with fencing to the left of the 3rd and right of the 1st.

I hope you all enjoy some good winter golf and see the improvements that are happening as you play round the course and please keep repairing those pitchmarks!

Thank you.
